As a volunteer, you support everything we do! Our Volunteer Program is open to individuals age 18+ who are looking for a meaningful way to contribute their valuable free time.

Earn an Explorer Membership after 60 hours of volunteer service, giving you free access to over 350 science centers worldwide when you travel.
Volunteer schedules are flexible and training is provided. Listed below are the volunteer opportunities available now at MHCM. We work to match your skills and interests with the needs of the museum.
NEW! 2019 Summer Playworks Volunteer: Spend time each week helping young children learn through play and fun activities. You will be trained during after hour sessions which focus on play and inquiry in early learning. We are also looking for summer special event volunteers. Exhibit Floor Volunteer: Enhance guest experience by helping families get the most out of our exhibits and educational activities. Exhibit Floor Volunteers help explain exhibit content, demonstrate how to use exhibits, and facilitate hands-on activities in our gallery spaces. MHCM exhibits offer many different types of interactive learning experiences from imaginative play and creative arts to early STEM and literacy.
Educational Programs: Perfect for volunteers with a specific interest in early education or with a skilled background in art, science, engineering, or early literacy – work with our Education team to facilitate Science Cart demonstrations, lead Art Studio activities, or lead Storytime activities.
Special Events: MHCM hosts many events throughout the year, attracting families from throughout the region. Special Event volunteers assist MHCM staff in set-up, facilitate activity stations and tend to guests needs to ensure events run smoothly. Annual events include: July 4th Fireworks Celebration, Halloween Spooktacular, and New Years @ Noon.
Farmers Market Volunteer: MHCM is the first children’s museum in the country to operate a public farmers market as a means of tackling local hunger and food insecurity by bringing the bounty of local farms to residents and area families. The Market runs seasonally from June through September in the Waterfront Pavilion at MHCM. Volunteers are needed to assist in weekly set-up and take-down of the Market, as well as promotion.
Facility and Exhibit Support: Do you have an advanced skill in cabinetry-making, electric work, plumbing, construction, sculpting or welding? We often have exhibit and facility enhancement projects that require these special skills. We invite you to inquire!
