Outdoor Pop-Up Art Experience: Alexander Calder Kinetic Sculpture
August 12, 2021 | Two Sessions 10:00 am and 1:00 pm
Program Description:. Alexander Calder, who was born into a family of artists, was a pioneer in Kinetic Art. He was most famous for his mobiles. These mobiles, hung down from the ceiling high above, were made of flat pieces of metal, steel or aluminum attached with wire. These mobiles would sway and change shape as they moved with just the slightest breeze.
In this workshop, kids (with help from their grownups) will create their own “kinetic” sculpture mobiles using wire, aluminum and other objects.
This program is for children ages 3-7 and space is limited. Pre-registration is required.
Cost: MHCM Members: $6; non-members $10 per child (parents / caregivers FREE)
Please Note: The main museum building remains closed at this time due to COVID-19. This special socially-distanced outdoor program will be held in MHCM’s open-air waterfront pavilion. Face masks are encouraged for all participants, but required for unvaccinated attendees and all children under the age of 12.
