Signature Events

Read Across America Day. Celebrate reading on March 2, the birthday of beloved children’s author Dr. Seuss. As part of this national initiative, MHCM provides parents, caregivers, and children the resources and activities to encourage reading at home 365 days a year.

Celebrate Summer. Our annual kick-off to summer happens the day after the last day of school each year. Activities focus on traditional summer activities such as: bubbles, face painting, live music, petting zoo, ice cream, food and art projects. Annual attendance is about 250 people.

Fourth of July Celebration. The City of Poughkeepsie hosts a firework display on the Hudson River to celebrate Independence Day. MHCM hosts a firework-viewing event for ticket holders to enjoy reserved parking, museum admission, and admittance to the museum’s pavilion.

Halloween Spooktacular. This annual Halloween event transforms the Children’s Museum into a “spooky” (but friendly) scene. Visitors are encouraged to come in costume and enjoy, snacks, games, museum exhibits, and a costume parade leading into the pavilion where staff leads the crowd in sing-alongs around a lit cauldron.

New Year’s Eve @ Noon. Families are invited to usher in the new year at the Hudson Valley’s best DJ dance party. With arts and crafts, healthy snacks and 3 celebrations on the hour until noon, this is one of the best family events of the year. This event sells out annually.
